Community

Cares

Community Cares empowers students to become active agents of change through hands-on civic engagement, democratic participation, and youth participatory action research (YPAR). This transformative initiative equips young people with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to identify community challenges and develop meaningful solutions that create lasting impact.

At its heart, Community Cares explores how community care itself becomes an act of social justice, advocacy, and democracy. Students examine how caring for one another is both a moral imperative and a powerful form of civic action that challenges systems of inequality and builds more just communities.

what is

CIVIc engagement?

"Civic engagement is a process in which people take collective action to address issues of public concern and is instrumental to democracy."

Youth Participatory

Action Research (YPAR)

YPAR is one form of youth participation among many! This paper may help folks understand other forms of participation,

YPAR is a cyclical process of learning and action – research is done not just for the sake of it but to inform solutions to problems that young people themselves care about. YPAR can be useful for any young people wanting to make a difference, and is an especially powerful approach for young people who are experiencing marginalization due to racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, ableism, or other forms of oppression.
